National Best Friend Day

Today is national best friend day. I’ll be honest throughout my life I’ve been handed some of the best friends anyone could have. Literally every season of life. There were some who may have been with me for a year or for a month but those lifetime achievement winners are what keeps me going most days. If I’m also honest I like to deflect from some reality and deal with what I choose. Is it right ? Healthy?Fair? All no’s but apparently it’s the coping mechanism I’m choosing to adopt for now. My mom is losing her best friend as we speak. Her sister. She is spending most all of her days with her now. Mom and I talked about how some people are better equipped at this than others. She is. If I can tell you what strength, humanity, prayers and constant love she has shown her sister not just now but her entire life. They talk endlessly all day. About genealogy or appointments or kids and so much other things. When she moved to Gainesville she moved into my girls life as well. They simply adore her and the countless visits she’s made over the years. I adore her for being mine and my friends teenage hangout my entire high school years. Ask a friend I had and we ended up in Vidalia. As I grew up she has given me tons of advice. Some wanted ,some not but always appreciated. I tell my girls there is something about having a sister that must be so special. The bond they have is so sweet and I hope it’s as special as moms and Maryann’s as they get older. I’ve avoided going to see her. Feel free to insert judgment but giving up people I love, has never been my strong suit. I am in such a weird space where the thought of losing her just seems unbearable. What is worse is I can’t stand to see my mom hurt. So I go back to the beginning… if you have a friend, love one, bestie, even someone who used to be your friend but chooses to humiliate you in a group of women…. lay it down. Life’s too short.Cant fix the deed but how we respond. I’m blessed with some great friends, some great family and coworkers old and new. The best of the best friend I have though is my mom. So if you stop and pray today, pray for her. Pray for my aunt and her kids. And thank God for all those friends who call you, text you love you and are there for you. That’s what this day is all about ❤️❤️❤️
